Cement Mill Upgrade

Significant infrastructure projects and domestic developments currently underway in Queensland has created increased demand in Queensland for cement.

Through its trading partners, sunstate Cement Limited (Sunstate Cement) has secured supply contracts for  the major Brisbane infrastructure projects. These include the Gateway Bridge Duplication and the North South By-pass tunnel, however with the current government undertaking major revues of the State’s infrastructure needs, and the continual roll out of new developments and projects, the State’s cement needs to match supply will continue to expand.

Sunstate has identified the need to expand its manufacturing capabilities at its Port of Brisbane milling facility to meet these increasing demands being faced. The current Cement mill upgrade project being undertaken is in line to help meet these needs.

Expansion plans for the Cement Mill Upgrade project include:

The construction of a third cement grinding mill to add an additional 500 000 tonnes per annum of capacity;

Extension of the existing clinker shed for the storage of an additional 70,000 tonnes of cement clinker;

The construction of 2 new 2000 tonne silos to cater for addition cement storage and truck loading facilities;

Construction of another 10,000 tonnes cement storage silo,

Construction of a new fly-ash storage, handling and processing system;

Additional ship unloading conveyors for the enhancement of materials handling capabilities.

As stated in the media release these upgrade projects are estimated to cost $85 million and continue over the 2 ½ years of the project life.
